Care & installation · ATELIER ŠIMA

Care and mounting of your enamel sign.

Fire enamel on copper is designed to last generations. A few simple habits keep it looking exactly as it did on the day it left the atelier.

Cleaning

Wipe the surface with a soft cloth and clean water. For stubborn marks, use a mild neutral soap. Never use scouring pads, wire brushes, acidic cleaners or abrasive polishes — enamel is glass, and once scratched it does not restore itself.

Mounting

Every piece is delivered with mounting notes suited to its size and format. As a rule, the sign should sit flat against a solid, weather-stable substrate. For thermally moving substrates (wood, insulation cladding) we advise slightly oversized holes and neoprene washers so the sign can breathe.

  • Do not overtighten fixings — copper is soft.
  • Use fixings appropriate to the substrate (masonry, timber, insulated façade).
  • Keep the sign level; a subtle out-of-square reading is unforgiving.

If something happens

Enamel is durable but not indestructible. A sharp impact can chip the surface. If that happens, please write to us with a photo: restoration is often possible, and we would rather help than have the piece hidden away.
